Examine the texts in your Multimodal Resource Set (Worksheets Sessions 1, 2, and 3) and consider the likelihood that this particular collection will be sufficient to engage each of the children in your classroom in reading. As you review your list, remember to consider not only your students’ reading abilities, but also their “ways of being” (as discussed by Catherine Compton-Lilly in the article assigned in session 3). Identify three texts that will be likely to engage children who tend to be less motivated or less engaged readers. Be certain to identify resources that will support children as they develop knowledge about animals and their habitats while also providing them sufficient choice. Remember that you can choose from any of the various types (e.g., traditional texts, e-books, videos, or digital games); and you can also choose resources that are not on the worksheet.
